Women's Golf second after day one of Creighton Classic

OMAHA, Neb. - After a round of 18 holes, the Southern Illinois women's golf team sits in second place at the Creighton Classic.
The Dawgs trail Missouri Valley Conference foe Northern Iowa by 17 strokes as they tallied a 327 overall. The Panthers lead the 14-team field with a 307 at Oak Hills Country Club.
"We struggled with windy conditions but we will bounce back tomorrow and hope to hold on to our second place standing," SIU head coach Alexis Mihelich said.
Cassie Rushing continued her solid play as of late with a tied for fourth place finish after round one, carding a 77 on the day. Margaret Gilley also finished in the top 10 as she finished sixth with a 79.
Alisha Matthews and Shaina Rennegarbe tied for 19th, each coming in with an 84 and Ryann Gilley rounded out the Dawgs top five with an 88 to tie for 42nd overall.
Ashleigh Rushing topped the individual finishes with a tie for 16th with an 82.
The Salukis will finish the final round of 18 holes tomorrow with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m.
