CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University announced Thursday that two men's basketball players have been granted a release from their scholarship, while two others have been denied until specific departmental requirements have been met.
Guards Travis Wilkins and Bobo Drummond, who signed letters of intent to play for the Salukis last November, have both been released, according to Director of Athletics Mario Moccia. Current freshmen Dantiel Daniels and Treg Setty have been denied, however. Moccia said the two players must first fulfill their obligation to the University this semester.
Daniels averaged 8.3 points and led the Missouri Valley Conference in blocked shots with 46 last season. He was named to the league's All-Freshman team. Setty played in every game and started 10 games, while averaging 4.4 points and 2.5 rebounds.
New head coach Barry Hinson, who was hired on March 28, said he expects to announce the names of his coaching staff in the near future and will hold a press conference at that time with the entire staff.
