McCall named MVC Field Athlete of the Week

ST. LOUIS --Southern Illinois thrower Jeneva McCall has been named the Missouri Valley Conference's Field Athlete of the Week the league announced Tuesday.
The All-American thrower continued her senior season tear to highlight the Saluki effort Saturday in Oxford, Miss. at the Ole Miss Invitational. The senior picked up wins in the shot put and discus and came in second in the hammer throw.
McCall's winning discus throw of 190-01 set a new facility record at the Ole Miss Track and Field complex and overtakes the current longest mark in the nation. The Dolton, Ill. native won the shot put with a throw of 57-03.75.
With the discus throw mark recorded on Saturday, McCall now holds the top mark in the nation in the hammer throw and shot put as well.
This is McCall's second Athlete of the Week honor in just two weeks of outdoor competition.
After Saturday's competition the Saluki women entered the top-25 of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Association's (USTFCCCA) rankings, jumping nine positions to be ranked 21st in the country. The men are ranked 81st of 195 teams.
The SIU track and field team will travel to Normal, Ill. Saturday to compete in a dual meet with the Redbirds of Illinois State.
