CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois track and field team will travel to Normal, Ill. Saturday to compete in a dual meet with the Redbirds of Illinois State.
The meet will take place at the Redbird Track and Field Complex on the campus of Illinois State University. The meet is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. with the women's hammer throw and wrap up around 4:10 p.m. with the men's 1600-meter relay race.
Last weekend the Salukis picked up five wins at the Ole Miss Invitational. MVC Field Athlete of the Week Jeneva McCall highlighted the event setting a new facility record at the Ole Miss Track and Field complex and overtook the current longest mark in the nation in the shot put, discus, and hammer throw. Cody Doerflein also had a historic meet in the pole vault, raising his previous career best, the second-highest in SIU history, by a quarter-inch.
SIU will look to continue the momentum Saturday against a strong Redbird team. Illinois State and Southern Illinois both boast reigning NCAA Champions, All-Americans, MVC Champions and Olympic hopefuls.
