Duran-Sellers, Montgomery named CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Mallory Duran-Sellers and Austin Montgomery have been named to the District V CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District teams for softball and baseball, the organization announced Thursday.
The 2012 Capital One Academic All-District Baseball and Softball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Duran-Sellers, a native of Windsor, Colo., was an Academic All-American selection in 2011 and currently maintains a 4.0 GPA in English education.
Currently, Duran-Sellers leads the SIU softball team with a .368 batting average, 11 doubles, four home runs and 23 RBI. She is a two-time MVC Scholar-Athlete selection and has been named an MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week once. She has spent seven semesters on the Dean's List and was named of the Top 25 Most Distinguished Seniors at SIU.
Montgomery is hitting .330 with six home runs and leads the Salukis with 46 RBI. He ranks in the top five in the MVC in hits, doubles, RBI and total bases. A native of Marion, Ill., Montgomery has started every game for SIU this season. Midway through the year, he made a seamless transition from right field to third base to help shore up the Salukis infield.
The junior is majoring in mechanical engineering and has a 3.594 GPA. He has been named to the MVC Academic Honor Roll in each of his first two years with SIU. Montgomery was also named MVC Conference Player of the Week and MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Feb. 20.
The Academic All-District teams include the student-athletes who are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
