Alisha Matthews named MVC Scholar-Athlete First-Team

ST. LOUIS - Alisha Matthews has been named to the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete First-Team, the league announced Friday.
This is the second year in a row that Matthews has been named a first-team honoree. She holds a 3.61 GPA in recreation and is one of the seven women's golfers throughout the league to be named to the first team.
Matthews, a senior from St. Louis, wrapped up her Saluki career Apr. 22-24 at the MVC Championships, where she shot a career-low and tournament record round of 67 (-5) to help the Salukis tie for third place overall. She also earned medalist honors with a top finish at the SIUE Intercollegiate during the fall and was named the MVC Golfer of the Week twice in 2011-12.
In order to be eligible, nominees must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale), while the student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institutions and must have participated in at least 50 percent of her team's rounds or played at the State Farm MVC Championship.
