Women's golf in eighth place at Redbird Invitational

NORMAL, Ill. - The Southern Illinois women's golf team is in eighth place at the Redbird Invitational after the first two rounds. The Salukis will play the final round tomorrow, starting with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
SIU shot a 312 in the first round and were tied for fourth place after 18 holes. Ashleigh Rushing led the way in the first round, carding an even-par 72 for SIU in the first round. Rushing finished her second round with an 80 and is tied for eighth place individually.
Southern shot a 323 in the second round and dropped four spots to eighth place. The Salukis are one shot behind seventh-place Drake and seven shots back of sixth-place Akron.
Cassie Rushing posted back-to-back 78s and is tied for 22nd individually in the 86-player tournament. Amy Lee (79-83, t-41st), Shaina Rennegarbe (85-82, t-63rd) and Mattie Lindner (83-88, t-71st) round out the Saluki five. Alexis Gatton (86-84, t-68th) competed as an individual.
Toledo (610) is the team leader by three strokes over Bowling Green (613). Illinois State's Katie Jean is the individual leader, carding a two-round total of 145 (+1).
