CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois welcomes Missouri State to Carbondale Sunday afternoon in a matchup of two teams tied for seventh-place in the Missouri Valley Conference standings.

SIU VS. MISSOURI STATE
Southern trails its all-times series with the Lady Bears 41-26, and MSU has won six out of the last seven in the series. The Bears enter Sunday's matchup at 9-9 overall and 1-5 in the Missouri Valley Conference. MSU fell to Evansville Friday night 77-53. Whitney Edie led the Bears with 13 points and five rebounds while Kenzie Williams added 10 points in the effort. Edie leads MSU for the season and is tied for fourth in the MVC in both scoring and rebounding with averages of 14.7 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. Williams is second on the team with an average of 10.8 points per game while Christiana Shorter figures for 10.1 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
LAST TIME THEY MET
The two teams split the series last season, both winning at home. The Salukis picked up their biggest win over the last four years, knocking off the preseason MVC favorites and eventual regular season conference champions 78-72 in Carbondale. Teri Oliver scored 28 points, including her 1,000th career point, to lead four Salukis in double figures. Cartaesha Macklin added 14 points and nine assists and Alexus Patterson chipped in 11 points and 11 rebounds. Christiana Shorter scored 22 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead MSU while Casey Garrison added 20 points and 8 rebounds. The Lady Bears downed the Salukis 81-61 in Springfield, Mo., after the Salukis turned the ball over a season-high 31 times. Macklin led SIU with 22 points and 10 rebounds while Garrison led MSU with 17 points.
LEADING THE SALUKIS
Sophomore guard Cartaesha Macklin leads SIU and is tied for seventh in the MVC with an average of 13.9 points per game while freshman guard Rishonda Napier is second on the team at 11.1 points per game. Freshman center Dyana Pierre ranks second in the MVC in rebounding and blocks at 8.9 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game. Macklin leads the Salukis and is tied for second in the Valley with an average of 4.0 assists per game.
WICHITA STATE ESCAPES SALUKIS
SIU rallied from an 18-point second-half deficit to pull within six with 5:27 to play, but the MVC-leading Shockers held off the Salukis for a 72-59 win Friday night at SIU Arena. Rishonda Napier hit a career-best six 3-pointers on nine attempts to post a career-best 23 points while Dyana Pierre added a career-high 17 points to go along with 15 rebounds in the losing effort. Chynna Turner tallied 22 points to lead the Shockers while Alex Harden added 15 points and seven assists.
NAPIER FOR THREE
Freshman guard Rishonda Napier's six 3-pointers against Wichita State is tied for fifth-most in a game in SIU history. Napier hit treys on three consecutive possessions in the second half for a 9-0 run that brought SIU within six points of the league-leading Shockers.
SALUKIS HIT THE GLASS
SIU shrugged off its rebounding issues from the previous two weeks for a solid night against Wichita State, out-rebounding the Shockers 36-29. WSU's 29 rebounds were the lowest by an SIU opponent this season. Dyana Pierre's 15-rebound outing marked her first double-digit rebounding game since the Marshall game on December 8. At that point, Pierre had pulled down double-digit rebounds in five consecutive games.
