Jalen Pendleton named MVC Newcomer of the Week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Southern Illinois University freshman guard Jalen Pendleton was named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, the league announced Monday.

The Evansville native averaged 12.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in a win over No. 22 Wichita State and a loss to Indiana State last week.

He scored the final six points for SIU, including the game-winner, in the two-point win over the Shockers last Tuesday. At ISU on Saturday, he scored a career-high 17 points. For the week, Pendleton was 9-of-13 from the field and 6-of-6 from the FT line.

Pendleton became the second Saluki player to win the award this year. Desmar Jackson won it for his game-winning shot versus Fresno State on Nov. 28.
