Salukis tie for 10th at Indiana Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Southern Illinois women's golf team tied for 10th at the Indiana Invitational on Sunday. Cassie Rushing led the team and tied for 23rd overall after firing a final-round 72 on Tuesday.
Cassie Rushing bounced back from an opening-round 84 with a 76 and 72 in the second and third rounds, respectively. The final-round 72 was the third-lowest final-round score in the 84-player tournament, and it tied for the fifth-lowest third-round score in school history. Rushing led the team for the fourth time this season.
Amy Lee and Mattie Lindner both shot a 238 and tied for 39th overall. Ashleigh Rushing (241) tied for 47th, and Shaina Rennegarbe rounded out the Saluki five one stroke behind Rushing.
The Salukis tied Missouri Valley Conference foe Bradley for the 10th spot in the tournament. The Salukis spotted Bradley a nine-stroke lead in the first round but topped the Braves by six and three strokes in the second and third rounds, respectively.
SIU also finished ahead of MVC schools Evansville (by 29 strokes) and Drake (by 46 strokes). Illinois State led all MVC schools and placed sixth in the tournament.
UP NEXT: The Salukis close out the season April 22-24 with the MVC Championships, hosted by Missouri State in Lake of the Ozarks, Mo.
