CARBONDALE, Ill.— Southern Illinois softball player Jayna Spivey has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District V First-Team.
The junior second baseman earns the first Academic All-District honor of her career. Her First-Team designation makes her a candidate for Academic All-America, which will be announced later this month.
Spivey has been SIU's top run producer this season with a team-high 43 RBI, which ranks third in the Missouri Valley Conference entering the weekend and ranks seventh in SIU history for a single season. Spivey also ranks second in the MVC with 11 home runs for the season, which is tied for seventh-most in SIU history for a season.
The Rosiclare, Ill., native ranks second on the team with a .306 batting to go along with 48 hits and 37 runs scored. Her .573 slugging percentage leads the team and her 39 walks is tied for the team's lead.
A biological sciences major, Spivey has a cumulative GPA of 3.80.
