MOBILE, Ala. -- Saluki women's golf currently sits in ninth place after Day One of the South Alabama Invitational on Monday.
The Salukis shot a first-round team score of 310, which at the time was good for a sixth-place tie. In the first round Southern was led by four rounds under-80 -- including a 76 by senior Ashleigh Rushing (157, tied for 33rd). SIU followed that up with a second-round score of 312 that saw four more under-80 scores and two rebound performances from the first round by sophomore Mattie Lindner (156, tied for 28th) and freshman Xianmei Jin (159, tied for 43rd)
Southern's best round of the day came from senior Cassie Rushing (155), who sits in 25th place after posting a 77 and a 78. With those two rounds today, Rushing is now the all-time leader at SIU in rounds under-80 with 71, passing Kelly Gerlach (69) for the lead.
Day Two will feature the third and final round of the South Alabama Invitational, which will tee off at 7:15 a.m. CST.
