MURRAY, Ky. -- Saluki women's golf finished second at the Murray State Racer Classic on Saturday, which was shortened to a two-round, one-day event due to anticipated winter weather.
Southern posted team rounds of 308 and 307 -- the latter of which was complimented by five rounds below 80 from all five golfers. This is the fourth runner-up team finish under SIU head coach Alexis Mihelich, who also owns seven team titles in just her third season at Southern.
The three-top finishers from SIU each shot a 153 and tied for seventh. Cassie Rushing (75-78), Ashleigh Rushing (75-78) and Kris Grimes (78-75) led the way, and freshmen Brooke Cusumano (tied for 13th, 158) and Xianmei Jin(tied for 17th, 159) each bounced back from first-rounds over 80 with a second-round 76 and 79, respectively.
"Overall, I'm very pleased with everyone's performance today," Mihelich said. "We are right there, from tee to green we are solid. If we can just hole some short putts we can get really low."
Next up, the Salukis travel to Jacksonville, Fla., for the North Florida Intercollegiate on March 10-11.
