CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University men's basketball team held a Postseason Celebration at SIU Arena on Tuesday evening that was attended by a crowd of approximately 300 fans.
The Salukis recently completed the 2013-14 season with a 14-19 overall record and finished tied for fourth place in the Missouri Valley Conference at 9-9 -- their highest finish in six years. They also advanced to the semifinals of the MVC Tournament for the first time since 2008.
Head coach Barry Hinson, Chancellor Rita Cheng and Director of Athletics Mario Moccia all spoke, and plaques were presented to team members. Hinson spoke in glowing terms about the improvements made throughout campus and challenged the fans to spread a positive message about Saluki Basketball and the University.
"To change the culture, everywhere you go, and I'm not talking just about basketball, you talk positive about our University," he said. "When it comes to this program, and this University, anything that comes out of your mouth that is less than positive is 100 percent unacceptable. Go Dawgs!"
