CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois softball program will host its annual Strike Out Cancer games this Saturday when Illinois State comes to Charlotte West Stadium for a doubleheader, starting at Noon. The team will wear special pink uniforms, and fans are encouraged to wear pink, as well.
Before the first pitch of the first game, fans will be asked to write down the name of a loved one affected by cancer on a piece of paper; there will be a moment of silence for fans to raise their paper in the air and commemorate the listed names.
In addition, there will be post-game autographs after the second game and a silent auction for a signed Saluki jersey. There will also be a 50/50 raffle, with all of the proceeds going to the Hope is Home campaign, Southern Illinois Healthcare's drive for a new comprehensive cancer treatment center in southern Illinois.
