Saluki women's golf finishes 12th at SEC tournament

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The SIU women's golf team shot a 915 to finish in 12th place out of 15 teams at the Johnie Imes Invitational hosted by Mizzou. The tournament was one of the toughest the Salukis will face this season, with an SEC host, several major schools and four MVC schools present.
"The girls knew it was a strong field, so coming into it I think they were a little more nervous than they normally are," head coach Alexis Mihelich said.
Sophomore Brooke Cusumano led the Salukis, shooting 227 (76-74-77) to tie for 44th place. Junior Mattie Lindner finished second for the Salukis, only a few strokes behind Cusumano with a 231 (80-77-74).
Freshman Alice Ho golfed the lowest round for the Salukis, shooting a 71 in the final round of the tournament. This tournament was Ho's first top-five start at the collegiate level.
"Alice was able to bounce back from her mistakes in the first round and turn them into something positive for the team in the third round," Mihelich said.
The Salukis travel to Iowa City next weekend to compete in the Diane Thomason Invitational hosted by University of Iowa.
