No. 2 TCU powers past Salukis, 16-4

FORT WORTH, Texas - Ten runs in the first three innings by No. 2 TCU sent Southern Illinois to a 16-4 loss Saturday afternoon. The Salukis (0-2) were unable to overcome the early deficit and strong pitching from the Horned Frogs (2-0).
"I thought we competed hard for the second day in a row," said SIU head coach Ken Henderson. "We were aggressive against one of the best pitching staffs in the country and we were outstanding on defense again."
TCU's offense got to SIU's Kyle Pruemer early and often in the first inning. The sophomore, making his first career start, gave up six earned runs on six hits, including a three-run home run.
After being held in check for the first three innings, the Saluki offense came alive in the fourth inning. J.C. DeMuri recorded the first RBI of the season for SIU on a fielder's choice. After a Hunter Anderson single, Nick Hutchins brought in the second run of the inning on a ground ball out. Ryan Sabo finished the scoring spree with an RBI double down the left field line.
SIU would manage to get one run in the fifth inning, on a DeMuri RBI single, before TCU put the game out of reach.
The Salukis got a boost late in the game when Bryce Sablotny came on in relief in the seventh inning. It was Sablotny's first appearance in almost two years. The senior pitched two innings, giving up one run.
"He has been throwing well and was good for us before he got hurt two years ago," Henderson said of Sablotny. "He is going to be an important piece in what we are doing, especially because he has experience. He did a good job for us."
Alex Lesiak gets the starting nod for SIU in the series finale against TCU. First pitch will be at 1 p.m. CT.
