Salukis take on Western Kentucky in weekend road series

ON THE ROAD AGAIN
For the second straight weekend series, the Salukis will play in a new location due to weather conditions. With the change in this weekend's series, SIU will have played 10 of its first 11 games on the road to start the season.
SATURDAY'S STARTERS
Redshirt senior Aaron Hauge and sophomore Kyle Pruemer will pitch for the Salukis in the double-header on Saturday. Hauge returns to the mound after picking up his first win of the season in the series opener against Eastern Kentucky. The lefty pitched a career-high eight innings while only giving up one run. He also tied a career-high with six strikeouts. Pruemer was just as good in his last outing against EKU, pitching 6.1 innings and surrendering two runs on six hits.
SCOUTING THE SALUKIS
SIU is coming off of an 11-inning 3-2 loss to Murray State in its last outing. The Salukis are currently hitting .213 to start the season. Freshman infielder Greg Lambert leads the team with eight hits and is tied with fellow freshman Braden Mosley with three RBIs. Aaron Hauge leads the pitching staff with a 1.38 ERA in his two appearances this season.
WESTERN KENTUCKY SERIES NOTES
SIU leads the all-time series against Western Kentucky 26-12. Under Henderson, the Salukis are 4-4 against the Hilltoppers.
SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS
Western Kentucky enters the series with a 2-5 record. The Hilltoppers are coming off a 10-6 loss in their last outing against 2014 CWS winner Vanderbilt. WKU was picked to finish ninth in the 2015 C-USA preseason poll. The Hilltoppers currently have three players hitting at least .333 this season. Seniors Ryan Church and Philip Diedrick lead WKU with 10 hits and 10 RBIs each.
YOUTH MOVEMENT
The Salukis are one of the youngest ball clubs in the MVC, with 26 freshmen and sophomores on the team.
WELCOME BACK
Bryce Sablotny and Anthony Shimkus made their first appearances in nearly two years against TCU. The two pitchers returned after recovering from Tommy John surgery.
FRESHMAN ALL-AMERICAN
LHP Kyle Pauly returns for his sophomore campaign after being named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American last season. Pauly had a 2-3 record and a 1.43 ERA.
PRESEASON ACCOLADE
Freshman INF Chase Slone was Baseball America's pick to be the MVC Freshman of the Year.
POCKET FULL OF DIMES
Chase Slone has been an iron wall at shortstop for SIU this season. The freshman infielder ranks second in the MVC with 28 assists.
UP NEXT
Weather permitting, the Salukis will return to Carbondale for a Tuesday afternoon game with Arkansas State before starting a three-game series with Northern Illinois at Itchy Jones Stadium.
