DES MOINES, Iowa - The Southern Illinois University men's basketball team plays at Drake on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. The Salukis (9-14, 2-8) have lost 10 of their last 12 games. The Bulldogs (6-16, 3-7) have a two-game winning streak. They have won nine of the last 11 meetings between the schools.

Second-half surge?
The Salukis have improved in the second half of the MVC season in both of Hinson's first two years at the helm of Southern Illinois. At Missouri State, Hinson's team's had a better second-half record in six of the nine seasons he was coach (2000-08).

In terms of tempo, the MVC ranks 32nd out of 32 conferences, according to KenPom.com. Four Valley teams, including SIU, rank among those with the longest offensive possessions.

Series versus Drake
The Bulldogs have dominated the recent series between the schools, winning nine of the last 11 meetings. However, SIU's two wins came in Des Moines in 2013 and 2014. In last year's victory, Saluki guard Desmar Jackson scored 24 points, grabbed five rebounds, dished five assists and recorded six steals.
Salukis heating up from three
As a team, the Salukis are 23-of-54 (.423) from 3-point range in the last four games. Two players are shooting the three ball particularly well during that span. Anthony Beane is 8-for-15 (.533) and Tyler Smithpeters is 8-for-17 (.471).

Anthony Beane among school, conference scoring leaders
On Dec. 22, G Anthony Beane (6-2, 190, Jr.) became the 44th player in school history to reach the 1,000-point plateau. Beane now has 1,131 -- placing him 29th all-time at SIU. He also ranks 20th all-time in career 3-pointers (100). Among active MVC players, Beane ranks third behind Northern Iowa's Seth Tuttle (1,560) and Evansville's DJ Balentine (1,474). UNI's Deon Mitchell is fourth (1,094) and there are no other 1,000-point scorers in the league. Beane is fourth in the MVC in scoring (15.7) this year. Six times he has topped the 20-point mark, including a career-high 32 points at Tennessee State.
