SIU resumes MVC play with three-game set at Bradley

DUE UP
The Salukis return to MVC play with a three-game set at Bradley starting on Friday. SIU is coming off of a 14-3 win over Austin Peay on Wednesday.
FRIDAY'S STARTER
Aaron Hauge will open the series on the mound for the Salukis. The redshirt senior has been stellar as the ace of the pitching staff. The LHP holds a 2-2 record with an ERA of 2.41. Hauge has a team-high 34 strikeouts in 37.1 innings of work.
SATURDAY, SUNDAY STARTERS
Bryce Sablotny and Kyle Pruemer will take the mound for Southern on Saturday and Sunday. The two RHP look to get their first wins of the season. Sablotny will make his second start of the season, while Pruemer makes his fifth start.
SCOUTING THE SALUKIS
SIU enters the weekend series with a 4-19 record. Offensively, the Salukis are hitting .236 so far this season. Jake Hand has a team-high .280 batting average, while Chase Slone leads the team with 24 hits. The pitching staff has an ERA of 6.59 this year. Hauge leads Southern in most statistical categories.
BRADLEY SERIES NOTES
SIU is 84-70-1 all-time against Bradley since 1952. Under coach Henderson, the Salukis are 10-8 against the Braves.
SCOUTING THE BRAVES
Bradley comes into the meet with SIU holding a 17-5 record. The Braves are hitting .270 as a team this season.Isaac Smith leads the Braves with a .387 average and 15 RBI. BU's pitching staff has been solid, with a 4.12 ERA. Elliot Ashbeck has been the ace of the staff, picking up five wins in his six starts this season. Matt Dennis has saved five games this season out of the bullpen.
YOUTH MOVEMENT
The Salukis are one of the youngest ball clubs in the MVC, with 26 freshmen and sophomores on the team.

Freshman INF Chase Slone was Baseball America's pick to be the MVC Freshman of the Year.

Chase Slone has been an iron wall at shortstop for SIU this season. The freshman infielder ranks second in the MVC with 71 assists.

Junior catcher Taylor Martin ranks near the top of the list in the MVC with nine caught stealing. Opposing teams have only stolen 15 bases against Martin.
