KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Saluki track and field will head to the Volunteer State this weekend to compete in the 49th running of the Tennessee Relays at the University of Tennessee's LaPorte Stadium.
SIU will compete alongside more than 1,750 athletes entered, one of the largest turnouts for the Relays in recent memory. The Saluki women are coming off a team victory last week at the EIU Big Blue Classic, where the SIU men finished as the runners-up behind Illinois.
Entering its third week of the outdoor season, Southern holds 14 national top-50 marks (seven men, seven women) -- helping boost the Saluki women to 38th and men to 59th in the most recent USTFCCCA Computer Rankings. Southern also holds 19 top-48 performances in the NCAA West Region -- 10 women, nine men -- that would qualify for the regional meet if the season were to end today.
SIU will only compete in the men's and women's hammer throw and men's and women's 10,000 meter runs on Day One on Thursday, beginning with the women's hammer at 4 p.m.
