Southern Illinois wraps up regular season MVC play this weekend against Missouri State. The series will also be the home finale for SIU.
FRIDAY'S STARTER
Chad Whitmer takes the mound Friday night for SIU. The sophomore RHP is 0-4 this season with an ERA of 5.91. In his last start, Whitmer went five innings, giving four runs on eight hits in a 4-3 loss at Evansville. So far this season, Whitmer has pitched 35 innings with 26 strikeouts.
SATURDAY, SUNDAY STARTERS
Bryce Sablotny and Kyle Pruemer will once again be the Saturday and Sunday starters. Sablotny is 1-3 this season with a 3.83 ERA. His last game saw the RHP pitch five innings at Evansville, allowing two runs on five hits. Pruemer is 0-5 this year with an ERA of 7.35. THe sophomore RHP pitched 4.1 innings against the Purple Aces in his last outing, giving up three runs on six hits.
SCOUTING THE SALUKIS
Southern comes into the weekend holding an overall record of 11-38 and an MVC record of 6-12. In their last series, SIU took the final game of a three-game set at Evansville. The team is hitting .259 this season with 436 hits. Senior Parker Osborne leads the team with a .319 batting average while freshman Greg Lambert leads the team in hits (57) and RBI (23). The Saluki pitching staff enters the series with an ERA of 6.24. Southern's pitching staff has combined for 299 strikeouts this season.
MISSOURI STATE SERIES NOTES
SIU is 35-62 all-time against Missouri State since 1988. Under head coach Ken Henderson, the Salukis are 5-7 against the Bears.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
No. 16 Missouri State comes to Carbondale with a record of 35-10 and are at the top of the standings in the MVC. The Bears are coming off of an 8-2 win over St. Louis to extend their current winning streak to six games. MSU enters the series hitting .294 and are led by Jake BUrger. Burger leads the team in batting average (.341), hits (62), and RBI (34). The MSU pitchers have an ERA of 3.10 with 401 strikeouts. The weekend rotation has a combined record of 15-4.
SENIOR DAY
Southern will recognize seniors Aaron Hauge, Parker Osborne, Tyler Rolland, and Bryce Sablotny on Saturday.
REWRITING HISTORY
With his 19th double of the season coming against Evansville, freshman Logan Blackfan has made his way into the SIU record book by tying for eighth-place for most doubles in a single season. With one more double, Blackfan will be tied for fifth-place in SIU history. The all-time leader is Chris Serritella with 24 in 2012.
GETTING TO THE PLATE
This season, Southern has a 1682 at-bats which is tops in the MVC.
GETTING ON BASE
After extending his on base streak to 19 games this weekend, Chase Slone has set a new season best for any SIU player this year. The previous best was 17 games by Parker Osborne.

The Salukis have been one of the top defensive teams in the MVC, as they have fielded a league-leading 46 double plays, five more than second place Dallas Baptist.
