CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University men's basketball program finalized its roster for the 2015-16 season today with junior college transfer Jeremy Postell.
A 6-foot-6, 205-pound forward, Postell played two seasons for New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, N.M. Last season, he played 27 games and made 11 starts for the Thunderbirds, helping the team to a 23-9 record. His 6.1 points per game was fifth-best on the team. He also averaged two rebounds and 0.8 steals per game.
"Jeremy adds size, athleticism and length to our roster," said head coach Barry Hinson. "He also offers versatility in that we can play him at several positions on the floor."
A lefty with 3-point range, he converted 32 percent (37-of-117) of his shots from behind the arc last season and 35 percent overall. Postell graduated from Westlake High School in Atlanta in 2012 and led his team to a 17-5 record his senior year.
The Salukis have been busy since the end of last season, adding six new players. Postell is the fourth juco transfer to join the program, along with point guards Mike Rodriguez, Leo Vincent and Aaron Siler. A pair of true freshmen -- forward Rudy Stradnieks and guard Sean Lloyd -- were also added. SIU's roster features 10 upperclassmen (three seniors, seven juniors), including All-Conference guard Anthony Beane.
