CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois pitcher Bryce Sablotny has been granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA, head coach Ken Henderson announced. The 2016 season will be Sablotny's final season in a Saluki uniform. Sablotny was granted an extra year of eligibility after injuries forced him to miss most of the 2013 season and the entire 2014 season.
Sablotny was one of SIU's top pitchers a year ago. The redshirt senior had a 3.95 ERA and led the team with 70.2 innings pitched. He capped the season by helping lead SIU to a 7-1 win over Illinois State in last season's MVC Tournament, allowing just one run in 5.1 innings.
His return to the team will bolster the Saluki pitching staff that lost Second-Team All-MVC selection Aaron Hauge.
