Peyton Wilhoit named MVC Golfer of the Week

ST. LOUIS — Southern Illinois sophomore Peyton Wilhoit was named Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week, the league announced today.

Wilhoit finished 8th out of 60 golfers at the Golfweek Conference Challenge last weekend, a 12-team tournament that featured seven teams that advanced to the NCAA Regionals last year. Five teams, including Kansas (19), Texas A&M (25), Lipscomb (45), James Madison (51) and Iowa (78) are among the team leaders in the Golfstat/Sagarin Collegiate rankings.

Wilhoit was 2-under par overall at the 7,179-yard, Par 72 Spirit Hollow Golf Course. He was second in the field in total pars (40) and posted scores of 74-69-71=214, marking the second time he's shot a sub-70 round in his career. The other time was a 68 at last year's MVC Championships, in which he placed 5th overall. Wilhoit now has five top-10 finishes in his career.
