Saluki Baseball picked eighth in MVC preseason poll

ST. LOUIS - The Southern Illinois University baseball team was picked to finish eighth in the Missouri Valley Conference Preseason Poll, the conference announced on Wednesday. The poll is determined by a vote from each coach in the conference.

Southern finished eighth last season with an overall record of 12-46 and a conference record of 6-15. The Salukis defeated Illinois State, 7-1, in the MVC Tournament last year. The 2016 roster features an experienced team, with 24 returning players that saw action last season. 

The Salukis open the 2016 season with a three-game set at McNeese State on Feb. 19. The home opener is set for Feb. 26 with a three-game series against Western Illinois.
