Southern Illinois senior guard Anthony Beane added another honor to his lengthy list of collegiate achievements, as the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced Friday he was named First-Team All-District.
Beane is the first Saluki player since Jamaal Tatum in 2007 to earn first-team honors from the NABC, which is selected and voted on by member coaches of the organization. Beane finished second in the MVC in scoring (19.3) behind Evansville's D.J. Balentine and had the highest single-season scoring average by a Saluki player since Troy Hudson in 1997.
During his remarkable four-year career, Beane scored 1,917 career points to finish third in school history behind only Charlie Vaughn (2,088) and Kent Williams (2,012). He joined Ashraf Amaya and Williams as the only players in school history to earn All-Conference honors three times. With 885 points, he tied Mike Glenn for the SIU Arena scoring record, and his 1,066 points in conference games made him just the 10th player in league history to surpass 1,000. Beane reached double figures in scoring 93 times in his career, hit 20+ points 36 times, and topped 30+ points seven times.
