Four Salukis Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors
CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Southern Illinois men's and women's track and field teams earned All-Academic Team honors from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the 2015-16 year, the organization announced Thursday.
The two teams were honored for having cumulative GPAs over 3.00, with the women carrying a 3.23 GPA while the men finished with a 3.09 GPA. 220 women's programs and 122 men's teams around the country received the distinction.
In addition, two male and two female student-athletes earned individual honors from the organization.
Kyle Landon (Accounting) earned his third consecutive All-Academic honor on the men's side. He was joined on the list by Kemar Jones (Environmental Science), who earned the second All-Academic honor of his career.
On the women's side, Olympian DeAnna Price (Accounting) earned the second All-Academic honor of her career, while Cara Engel (Exercise Science) was awarded for her work in the classroom for the first time in her career.
For an individual to qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:
• For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org
• For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
