Salukis will host three tournaments including the conference championship
The Saluki women's golf team released the schedule for the 2016-17 season today. The Salukis will host three tournaments, including the Missouri Valley Conference Championship in April at Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
The Salukis will stay close to home in the fall. SIU opens its season at the Redbird Invitational on Sept. 4, in Bloomington, Ill. at MVC foe Illinois State's home course, Weibring Golf Club. The team will take short trips to Kentucky and the Chicagoland area before hosting the Missouri Valley Conference Preview on Oct. 3-4 at Dalhousie. The Salukis will get a taste of what the rest of the Valley has to offer at tournaments hosted by Illinois State and Loyola as well as the MVC Preview. Southern will close out the fall at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate in Clarksville, Tennessee.
In the Spring, the Salukis will resume play at the inaugural Ball State Sunshine Invitational at PGA Village in Port St. Lucie, Fla. On Feb. 26, the team will play at the historic Kiawah Island Resort in Kiawah Island, S.C. for the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic. Kiawah Island Resort hosted the Ryder Cup in 1991 and the PGA Championship in 2012. The PGA Championship will return to the facility in 2021.
Following the two tournaments in the southeast, SIU will play two events in Texas, the Bradley Spring Break Invitational in Dallas and the Lamar Challenge in Beaumont, Texas. The Bradley Spring Break Invitational will be played at Brookhaven Country Club, PGA star Jordan Spieth's home course growing up.
The Salukis will host their final two events of the season. The annual Saluki Invitational will be played on March 26-27 at Hickory Ridge Golf Course in Carbondale.
