Senior Brooke Cusumano continued her strong start to the season with a medalist performance at the Loyola Fall Invitational in Flossmoor, Ill. It was the first win of the season for Cusumano and the second of her career. She shot a 76 in the final round to leapfrog Loyola's Morgan Brown for first. Cusumano was the only player in the field to shoot in the 70s in all three rounds.

It was the third straight top-2 finish for Cusumano. She is coming off of back-to-back runner-up finishes at the UIC Fall Invite and the Murray State Drake Creek Invitational. It was Cusumano's first win since the Murray State Invitational last September.

As a team, Southern finished tied for third behind Butler and Loyola. The Salukis were 17 strokes ahead of fourth place Indiana State. Southern was led by Cusumano and sophomore Sun Jung. Jung finished in ninth place after showing improvement throughout the three rounds of the tournament. Senior Kristie Yang finished tied for 13^th with a three round score of 247.

Butler and Loyola finished the tournament tied at the end of play and had to go to a scorecard playoff to determine a winner. Butler's fifth player, Rachel Gathof, shot 253 in the tournament and outscored Loyola's fifth player, Natalie Meyers, to clinch the win for the Bulldogs.

Southern will take a week off before hosting the rest of the Missouri Valley Conference at the MVC Preview at Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, on Oct. 3 and 4.
