QUICK HITS
- The Salukis travel to Terre Haute, Ind., for a game against the Indiana State Sycamores. The Trees are celebrating their Homecoming weekend.Â

- Southern Illinois hits the road for a game at Indiana State on Saturday, Oct. 21. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. CT.
- Indiana State is celebrating its Homecoming game.Â
- The Sycamores have won three-straight games in the series. The all-time series is tied, 27-27.Â
- The Trees hold a 15-12 lead over SIU in games played in Terre Haute.Â
- Indiana State won the last game in Terre Haute, 39-36 in 2015. Prior to that game, SIU had won six-straight games over Indiana State in Terre Haute.Â
- Over the last three seasons, SIU is 13-7 at home (.650) and 3-17 on the road (.150).Â
ALL-AROUND TEAM WIN OVER ILLINOIS STATE
- SIU is coming off a 42-7 win over No. 15 Illinois State last weekend on Homecoming.Â
- Illinois State came into that game allowing 220 yards per game. The Salukis piled up 549 yards in the win.
- Offensively, the Redbirds were scoring 32.6 points per game. SIU held Illinois State to seven points.
- Illinois State was limiting opponents to fewer than 50 rushing yards per game. The Salukis ran for 181 yards on Saturday.Â
- On special teams, Craig James returned punts for 30 and 33 yards, and the Salukis won the net punting battle.Â
- SIU beat a ranked opponent for the 16th consecutive season.Â
- Southern was coming off a 35-point loss at South Dakota State (49-14), the largest margin of defeat for SIU since 2003.Â
STRAUB SHINES
- Starting quarterback Sam Straub is the reigning MVFC Offensive Player of the Week. Straub shared the honor with USD's Chris Streveler.Â
- Straub threw for 368 yards and four touchdowns in the win, and he did not commit a turnover.Â
- Straub also ran for 45 yards and had 413 yards total offense.Â
- Straub's 368 passing yards rank 10th in SIU single-game history. Straub has three of the top-12 passing games in school history:Â
- 450 in 2016 vs. Western Illinois (school record)
- 368 in 2017 vs. Illinois State (10th)
- 366 in 2016 at Youngstown State (12th)
- Straub's 413 yards total offense rank seventh in school history. Straub has three of the top nine total offense games in school history.
- 469 in 2016 vs. Western Illinois (3rd)
- 413 in 2017 vs. Illinois State (7th)
- 407 in 2016 at Youngstown State (9th)
- Straub has only started nine games in his career. He has thrown at least four touchdowns in four of those games.
- He is the first player in program history with more than two games of 4+ touchdown passes. Straub has done that three times this season alone and four times in his career.Â
- For the season, Straub has 17 touchdown passes, which already ranks ninth in school history. Straub is just 11 touchdown passes away from tying Nick Hill's SIU single-season record (28 in 2007).
- Straub already has 25 touchdown passes in his career, just two shy of tying Rick Johnson (1980-83) for 10th in Southern's all-time TD passes list.Â
- Straub also has thrown for 2,697 yards in his career, which ranks 14th all-time.Â
- Jim Hart, who went on to throw for more than 35,000 yards in the NFL, is 10th on SIU's all-time passing yardage list with 3,779.Â
SACK DISCREPANCY
- SIU has a +14 sack discrepancy--SIU has 17 sacks and allowed just three sacks in 2017.Â
- Southern's offense has allowed just three sacks all season, which ranks second in the nation.
- Southern's defense already has 17 sacks, which is 24th nationally and fourth in the MVFC.Â
- Last season, SIU had 20 sacks all season. This year, SIU is already at 17 just halfway through the year.Â
- Southern's offensive line has not allowed more than one sack in any game this season.Â
