SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — The Southern Illinois women's basketball team will take on the University of Miami Hurricanes (8-3) on Wednesday, Dec. 20 as part of the Puerto Rico Classic. The Salukis were scheduled to take on Kennesaw State but the Owls were unable to make the trip due to power outages at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
The Hurricanes, under the direction of 13th-year head coach Katie Meier, won their Puerto Rico Classic opener with an 82-56 win over Sacramento State. Miami started the year ranked No. 24 in the preseason USA TODAY Coaches Poll after a 2016-17 season in which the 'Canes went 24-9 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Southern's last win over an ACC opponent came on Dec. 20, 1994 against Florida State at the Puerto Rico Shootout in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This is SIU's first game against an ACC opponent since 1997.
