Southern Illinois senior forward Sean O'Brien was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District Second Team on Wednesday in a vote of Missouri Valley Conference coaches. The voting closely replicated the outcome of the MVC's own All-Conference team announced on Feb. 28. The only variation was the NABC's team featured Northern Iowa's Jeremy Morgan on the first team, rather than Wichita State's Landry Shamet.
A four-year starter from Mundelein, Illinois, O'Brien averaged 11.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game for the Salukis last season and ranked among the MVC's leaders in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, offensive rebounds and minutes played. His nine double-doubles were the most in school history since forward Mamadou Seck had 10 in 2012.
O'Brien finished his career ranked in the top 25 at SIU in several statistical categories — points (1,244, 25th), rebounds (805, 8th), blocked shots (71, 12th) and assists (244, 20th).
