Salukis dominate Illinois State in regular season finale

The Southern Illinois men's tennis team ended its regular season on a high note, defeating Illinois State, 7-0, in Bloomington, Illinois.
In typical fashion for the team, the Salukis clinched the doubles point with wins in No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The No. 1 doubles team of Piotr Baranski and Alex Pozo extended their winning streak to 14-straight. They are tied with David Desilets and Lito Ampon, who played for the Salukis in 1982, among the most doubles win in a season.
Using the momentum from the doubles matches, SIU went on to sweep all six flights of singles. In a series that has come down to the last point in recent years, the Redbirds pushed the Salukis throughout the match and their efforts didn't go unnoticed.
"ISU came out with a lot of fire today and really pushed us," SIU coach Jonny Rigby said. "We had to dig deep in doubles and we battled well in singles. Overall, this match was a great way to end our regular season."
The MVC Championships take place in Bloomington on April 28-30.
