For the first time in 27 years, a member of the Saluki Men's Tennis team will compete in the NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championship.
No. 89-ranked Piotr Baranski is one of 64 players who will be competing in the NCAA Singles Tournament (May 24-29) in Athens, Georgia. Baranski received the automatic bid for the Missouri Valley Conference. To qualify for the tournament, a conference must have one or more eligible singles players ranked in the ITA Top 125, the player must have played in at least 13 matches overall, with six matches in the spring season.

Baranski ended the season with an overall record of 25-2 and was undefeated in the MVC regular season, which included a win against No. 87 Vinny Gillespie of Drake. His overall singles record puts him as No. 6 in the Saluki Men's Tennis record book for most wins in a season.
"Piotr has been incredibly consistent for us this year at the top of the lineup," Coach Jonny Rigby said. "I am confident that he will go to Georgia and represent himself and the university well. I can't wait to see him compete against the best players in the country."
The last Saluki to compete in the NCAA Singles Tournament was Saluki Hall of Famer Mickey Maule in 1990.
"This is a huge accomplishment for SIU Tennis as well as for Piotr," Director of Tennis Audra Anderson said. "Since January, the team knew that this was the last season for SIU Tennis, but they didn't let that ruin their goals or get them down. It inspired and motivated them to make their legacy remembered and remember these moments, we certainly will."Players Mentioned
