SIU Softball's 26 Academic All-Americans are the second-most in NCAA history
CoSIDA Release
Southern Illinois first baseman Shaye Harre earned third-team Academic All-America honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America, the organization announced Thursday. This marks the second-consecutive year the Nashville, Ill. native has been named an Academic All-American as she was selected to the second-team in 2016.
A senior in 2017, Harre is just the eighth Saluki to be named an Academic All-American in back-to-back seasons and the first to do so since Mallory Duran-Sellers in 2011 and 2012.
Â
With the selection, Southern Illinois now has 26 Academic All-Americans in program history. It's the second-most of any program in NCAA softball history, trailing only Nebraska's 30 Academic All-Americans for most all-time.
Harre earned her bachelor's degree in animal science and graduated from SIU with a 3.91 cumulative grade-point average. She earned her second-straight nod on the All-MVC first team after she led the league in doubles (18), doubles per game (.32), on-base percentage (.527) and walks (1.0/game). She capped off an impressive senior season by leading the Salukis to their first MVC Tournament Championship since 1991, as she hit .667 (6-for-9) with a home run, a double, three walks and five RBI in Southern's three tournament games. In doing so, she was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.Â
Harre leaves SIU as it's all-time leader in doubles (49) and RBI (156), and finishes her career ranked in the top-10 in a host of additional offensive categories including batting average (.330, 8th), hits (188, T-8th), runs (113, T-9th) and home runs (31, 5th).Â
To be eligible, players must have been in their second year at an institution with at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA and have earned first-team Academic All-District honors.Â
