Marks the third-straight season that the five-time All-American has earned Academic All-District laurels
Southern Illinois University high jumper Kyle Landon has been named to the 2016-17 Cross Country/Track and Field Academic All-District Team, presented by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The 2016-17 Academic All-District ® Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Teams recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-District ® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. SIU is a member of District 5, which includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.
Landon is an accounting major and has a 3.74 cumulative grade point average. It marks the third-straight year in which the Chester, Ill. native has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team.
The five-time All-American was the runner-up in the high jump at the 2017 NCAA Indoor Championships. He went on to set a Missouri Valley Conference record for most career high jump titles, winning his record-breaking eighth high jump competition at the 2017 MVC Outdoor Championships on May 14. He later added a MVC long jump title and a second place finish in the triple jump. For his efforts, Landon was honored as both the Most Outstanding Male Field Athlete and the Most Valuable Athlete of the 2017 MVC Outdoor Championships. In doing so, he became just the second Saluki, and the sixth athlete in Valley history, to earn a share of the Most Valuable Athlete award at the conference's indoor and outdoor championships in the same season. Meanwhile, he joined Illinois State's Tom Barrett as the only male field athletes in Valley history to sweep the Most Outstanding Male Field Athlete in back-to-back seasons since the conference began giving out the award in 1992.
Landon was one of five from the Valley selected to Academic All-District teams, all of whom advance to the Academic All-America Team National ballot, where first, second and third team selections will be announced next month.
Landon is set to high jump at this weekend's NCAA West Regional in Austin, Texas. The high jump competition begins Saturday, May 27 at 6 p.m.
