
Men's team posts 13 top-five finishes at quad meet

LEBANON, Ill. — The Southern Illinois men's swimming and diving program traveled to Lebanon, Illinois and won three events in a quad meet against McKendree, Missouri S&T and Saint Louis. The Salukis brought 14 swimmers to the McKendree Metro Rec Plex and the meet held no team scores.Â
Southern also finished the meet with 13 top-five finishes, despite the limited amount of swimmers who competed.Â

- 100-yard breaststroke- Fu Kang, 55.40
- 200-yard breaststroke- Chris Phillips, 2:06.44
- 400-yard IM- Chris Cole, 4:02.08

"I was pleased that we stepped up some of our performances," said Walker. "The men had some really good swims and it was nice to see a little of what Fu Kang can do."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ryan Lehane, Kang, Tamas Hajtman and Robert Chelberg took second in the 200-yard medley relay at 1:34.14, in a field of 11 relay teams.
- Cole held off fellow Saluki, Drake Manuello (4:12.31) in the 400 IM to take first with a time of 4:02.08.
- Cole finished third in the 1,000-free (9:34.11), four seconds shy of his career best in the event.Â
- Kevin Kluge claimed fourth in the 1,000-free (9:46.56), behind Cole for the second-straight meet.Â
- Phillips swam a time of 2:06.44 to win the 200-breast, earning the second Saluki victory of the day.
- Teammates Jimmy Dooley and Manuello finished two-three (2:07.40 and 2:08.13) in the 200-breast to cap off the event in successful fashion.
- Newcomer Kang competed in his first collegiate meet and began it in winning fashion as he swam away with a victory in the 100-breast (55.40).Â
- Kang also placed fifth at 46.84 in the 100-yard freestyle.Â

The Salukis will compete in the Missouri Invite in Columbia, Mo. from Nov. 15-17.
