
Women's Basketball tips off in Las Vegas on Friday

The Southern Illinois women's basketball team will embark on a four-day trip to Las Vegas, Nev. to take on Hartford (2-3) on Friday, Nov. 24 and No. 19 Arizona State (2-1) on Saturday, Nov. 25. Video for Friday's game is available here and can be heard here.
Scouting the Hawks
• The Hawks went 19-13 a year ago and advanced to the American East Championship game.
• Hartford was picked to finish second in the American East Preseason Poll
• Senior Lindsey Abed was selected to the American East's Preseason All-Conference team.
• Sophomore Jade Young earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team while Sierra DaCosta, the 2017 American East Rookie of the Year, also returns.
• Hartford broke the program record for steals last season for the second-consecutive season with 399 takeaways.
• Finished the season 5th nationally in steals and sixth in steals per game.
SIU vs. Hartford
SIU's matchup with Hartford will mark the first-ever meeting between the two programs.Â
SIU vs. the American East Conference
• This will mark just the second time that SIU has ever faced an American East Conference opponent. • Southern fell to Albany, 68-57 last season at the Puerto Rico Classic.
Record on Black Friday
• The Salukis are 6-8 all-time on the day after Thanksgiving, typically referred to as Black Friday.
• Southern's last win on Black Friday came on Nov. 28, 2014 - a 78-62 win over SEMO at the SIU Arena.
• The Salukis also won on Black Friday the last time they were in Las Vegas- a 71-46 win over San Francisco on Nov. 23, 1990.
Past History in Vegas
• The Salukis participated in the 7-Up Desert Classic over the 1990 Thanksgiving weekend and went 1-1.
• Southern defeated San Francisco, 71-46 before losing the following day to UNLV, 78-55.

• Brittney Patrick has started all four games at point guard for the Salukis and is averaging the second-most minutes (32.0./game) on the team.
• The Bolingbrook, Ill. native currently leads the league in total assists (22) and assists per game (5.5).Â
• She is also second in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.14).Â
Cleaning Glass
• The Salukis snagged 26 offensive rebounds against Western Kentucky - their most in a game since Jan. 26, 2014 vs. Evansville.
• Nicole Martin (7) and Lauren Hartman (4) both either set or tied career-bests in the category in the category.
• Southern grabbed a season-high 47 rebounds and won the rebounding battle by 15 boards (47-to-32).Â
• SIU's +15 rebound margin was its largest since a 75-49 win over Bradley on Jan 8, 2016.Â
Making them count
• Nicole Martin is shooting at a 62.8% clip to open the season- which currently ranks second in the MVC.Â
• All of Martin's 27 field goals are from inside the arc- which ranks her 24th out of 4,066 DI athletes for 2-pointers made.
• Martin recorded her third career double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds against Western Kentucky.

Double-Double Machine
• Abby Brockmeyer recorded her third-straight double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Marshall.
• She is the first player in program history to open a season with three-straight double-doubles.
• Joins Drake's Sara Rhine as the only two players in the Missouri Valley Conference to open the 2018-19 season with three-straight double-doubles.
• It was Brockmeyer's eighth career double-double and her three double-doubles this season are tied for ninth nationally.
Protecting the Rim
• The Salukis are currently second in the league in blocks (17) and blocks per game (4.3/game).Â
• SIU has only once led the league in blocks - do so during the 1988-89 season.
• SIU's eight blocks vs. Marshall were a season-high.Â
