Saluki Athletics teamed up with the SIU College of Business to host the inaugural 'Ready For Business' themed basketball game on Wednesday. More than 400 students from 28 local high schools and community colleges were invited to attend a college fair and the Saluki men's basketball game versus Saint Louis. Prospective students got a first-hand look at the Southern Illinois University campus and learned more about all of the SIU colleges.
"I spent seven of the best years of my life in Southern Illinois," said SIU Athletic Director Jerry Kill. "This is the best place I've ever been. I'll tell you why: it's about the people. Southern Illinois University has great instructors and athletes. From Los Angeles to New York City, there are people out there who are tremendously successful who have come out of Southern Illinois University. We have everything you need here at SIU to be successful."
The welcome reception at the Student Center included remarks from Carbondale mayor Mike Henry, Bank of Carbondale President Bob Bleyer, former state FBLA president Bradley Marks, interim provost Meera Komarraju, dean of the College of Business Terry Clark, U.S. track and field Olympian DeAnna Price, in addition to Kill.
"Southern Illinois University made me who I am," said Price. "Southern Illinois is a home…we have a little bit of everything. SIU made me successful. I've traveled the world all because of Southern Illinois University.

Students were encouraged to wear suits or business attire to the basketball game. Participants also had the chance to win a $500 scholarship to SIU, courtesy of The Bank of Carbondale. The winner of the scholarship, Jarmekia Walker of Belleville East High School, was recognized at the Saluki basketball game.Â
