Hurley named MVC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week

ST. LOUIS - Ricky Hurley has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week, the Valley announced Tuesday.
Hurley set lifetime-bests in both the shot put and the weight throw at the Music City Challenge. He began the weekend with a sixth place finish in the weight throw after he uncorked the ninth-longest throw in school history at 64'-7.50" (19.69m). In doing so, he became just the second Saluki thrower with top-10 marks in both the indoor shot put and the weight throw. The Fox River Grove, Ill. native followed with a lifetime-best toss of 59'-7" (18.16m) in the shot put to take seventh.
Hurley now ranks second in the MVC, and 40th nationally, in the shot put and is currently fourth in the Valley in the weight throw.
The Salukis will next send athletes to the EIU Friday Night Special on Friday, Feb. 16 in Charleston, Ill. before competing at the 2018 MVC Indoor Championships in Cedar Falls, Iowa from Feb. 24-25.
