Connor Kopach named to Brooks Wallace Award Watch List

LUBBOCK, Texas - Southern Illinois shortstop Connor Kopach was one of 53 players named to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List. The award, sponsored by Mizuno, honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented this summer by the College Baseball Foundation.

Kopach, a senior, is hitting .358 with 11 doubles, four triples, four home runs, 29 RBIs and 21 stolen bases.

The Missouri Valley Conference is exceptionally well-represented, with five of the league's eight shortstops on the list. Kopach leads all MVC shortstops in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, runs scored, hits, RBIs, triples, total bases, walks, sacrifice flies, stolen bases, assists, and double plays turned. Nationally, Kopach ranks second among shortstops in stolen bases.

The award is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27.
