Saluki Track and Field earns USTFCCCA Academic Honors

The Southern Illinois University men's and women's track and field teams, as well as five individuals, earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic honors on Thursday.
The women's team finished the year with a 3.39 GPA while the men's track and field squad earned a 3.13 GPA. A total of 361 teams received the honor, including 141 men's teams and 220 women's teams.
In order to be named a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, a program must compete at their respective national championship meet and have at least a 3.0 cumulative team GPA.
Four Saluki women were chosen, led by Kezia Martin. Martin was honored for the second-straight season and was joined by first time recipients Shafiqua Maloney, Alicia Reed and Alexis Roberson.
On the men's side, Sam Sikon represented the Salukis among the 624 men who earned USTCCCA All-Academic honors for the 2017-18 track and field season.
For an individual to qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:
For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top-96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org. For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
