Saluki Baseball earns ABCA Academic Excellence Award

The Southern Illinois baseball team earned the Team Academic Excellence Award from the American Baseball Coaches Association, the organization announced earlier in August. SIU was one of 50 Division I programs to earn the honor. SIU and Bradley were the only two Missouri Valley Conference teams to earn the honor.

To earn the award from the ABCA, teams had to post a minimum team GPA of 3.00 for the 2017-18 academic year. The Salukis far exceeded that standard with a 3.210 team GPA for 2017-18.

Under head coach Ken Henderson, Saluki Baseball continues to excel academically; the program has achieved a 3.00 GPA or better in 10 of the past 12 semesters, and the program GPA record has been broken four times.

After the 2018 season, four players were named MVC Scholar-Athlete recipients, marking 24 MVC Scholar-Athlete honors for SIU in the last eight years.
