Men's Golf unveils 2018-19 schedule

CARBONDALE, Ill. — The Southern Illinois men's golf team announced its 2018-19 schedule, which features a host of high-major tournaments, plus the program's first-ever trip to Hawaii. The team will play in 11 tournaments this season, including the MVC Championships in Sunrise Beach, Mo. (April 22-23, 2019), where an automatic team bid to the NCAA Regionals will be at stake.
Sept. 8-9: at Indiana
Sept. 16-18: at Iowa
Sept. 23-24: at Northwestern
Oct. 7-8: at Notre Dame
Nov. 2-4: at Hawaii
Feb. 22-24: at Wyoming
March 11-12: at South Florida
March 29-31: at Florida Atlantic
April 8-9: at Missouri
April 13-14: at Purdue
April 22-23: at MVC Championships
"We've strived to improve our schedule each year and this year is no different," said SIU head coach Justin Fetcho. "We tell all our recruits that you are going to have the opportunity to compete against the best teams and the best players in the country, and this year's schedule again upholds that statement."
The schedule is loaded with "firsts" for the program — the first time SIU has played at four Big Ten opponents, the first time it has played at Notre Dame, and the first trip to Hawaii.
"We are incredibly grateful to the many donors and supporters who have stepped up to support our men's golf program and make trips such as these possible for our team," Fetcho said. "I'm excited to add some new events to the schedule and also keep some familiarity and return to some places that we have been to in the past."
Southern returns four lettermen from last year's team, including senior Peyton Wilhoit, who last season became just the second player in program history to advance to the NCAA Regionals.
"We wanted to build a schedule that will help us compete for a Missouri Valley Conference title and also prepare us for the NCAA postseason, and I believe that we were able to accomplish both of those goals with this year's schedule," Fetcho said.
