MARION, Ill. - Southern Illinois University Athletic Director Jerry Kill spoke to a group of more than 200 employees of General Dynamics on Wednesday as part of their training and development program to talk about teamwork and leadership.
Kill shared stories from his life and spoke about culture in the workplace, supporting your team, having a clear vision, and doing your job.

"If you can get your team believing in each other you're going to win. If you want to be successful in anything you do, everybody is important. Everyone is part of the team," said Kill. "Surround yourself with good people. You have to take care of your teammates if you want to win."
On building a team and working toward a common goal, Coach Kill reminisced on his coaching career and the lessons his mentors taught him.
"You can't have a team without a vision. It's important to understand your team's vision and how you are going to get there," said Kill. "The number one thing to be successful is hard work. That's what my dad taught me and my brother. Reach for the stars. You may only get to the moon, but reach for the stars. Keep working hard."
In his closing remarks, Kill reminded the group to stay focused.
"Do your job. Don't worry about what everyone else is doing. Do your job," said Kill. "Be proud of who you are. The only person that can judge you is in the mirror. If you look in the mirror and you like what you see...keep it up, because the mirror doesn't lie."
Following his talk, Kill was presented with a plaque from General Dynamics in recognition of his service to the community. Coach Kill took questions from the audience and signed copies of his book "Chasing Dreams: Living My Life One Yard at a Time".
