Saluki Baseball posts program record 3.47 GPA in Fall 2018

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois baseball program set a program record with a 3.471 team GPA in the Fall 2018 semester. The mark shattered the previous team record 3.337 GPA in Spring 2017.

Twenty-five student-athletes carried a 3.0 GPA or greater during the Fall 2018 semester, and seven student athletes posted a perfect 4.0 GPA: Philip Archer, Blake Begner, Henry Boeckmann, Will LaRue, Evan Martin, Austin Ulick, and J.T. Weber.

"Over the past few years, our student-athletes have developed a great culture of academic success, and this group has taken it to a new level," SIU head coach Ken Henderson said. "I could not be more proud of their effort and dedication. This is an extremely talented group of young men with high expectations, and we firmly believe that academic and athletic success go hand-in-hand, and that you can be outstanding at both."

Saluki Baseball has set and re-set the program GPA record four times under ninth-year head coach Ken Henderson. The program has posted a team GPA above 3.0 for nine consecutive semesters. SIU baseball student-athletes have garnered 24 MVC Scholar-Athlete honors under Henderson.

"We also need to thank our academic staff—Kaila Tyner, Hilary Wittenborn and Cordaro Thomas—for their support and hard work on behalf of all of our student-athletes," Henderson said.

Saluki Baseball opens the 2019 season on Feb. 15 at Nicholls. The team's home opener is March 1 against Western Illinois.
