Salukis finish tied for second at Lady Red Wolves Classic, break 54-hole school record

In the conclusion of the Lady Red Wolves Classic in Jonesboro, Arkansas, the Southern Illinois women's golf team finished tied for 2nd with Lipscomb University (+17). Arkansas State led the nine team field going into the final round and finished first with a three-round total of 873Â (+7).
In their fourth tournament of the 2019-20 season, the Salukis historic year continues after the team carded a 54-hole school record 294-296-291 for a total of 881.Â"We played very smart this week," said SIU head coach Danielle Kaufman. "Our talent is really starting to show. I'm very proud of Emilyee and Rosemarie for their accomplishments on the course this week. This team is capable of going low every round. I'm so proud to see them go three rounds under 300 and break another school record."
Junior Emilyee McGiles (+4) shot a career low and matched the teams low round of 69 in the final round, finishing tied for tenth place. Rosemarie Bundy (+6) also had a career low round and tied for 16th with a total of 222. Senior Erica Kerr (+7) placed 19th, finishing in the top-20 for the second time this season. Freshman Ayanna Habeel (+9) tied for 21st and Moyea Russell (+10) tied for 27th. In her season debut, Amelia Lawson played as an individual and carded a total of 238 (+22).
"If we keep playing with grit and positive vibes we will continue to prove our talent," said Kaufman.Next Monday, October 21, 2019, the Southern Illinois women's golf team will compete in the Charles Braun Jr. Intercollegiate to cap off the 2019 Fall season. The two day tournament concludes Tuesday, October 22, 2019, as the Salukis look to finish their record breaking year on a high note.
