
Five Things to Know: SIU vs. CBU in Regular Season Finale

CARBONDALE, Ill. – In the final chapter of the 2019 campaign, the Southern Illinois University women's soccer team (4-10-2 overall) is preparing for its regular season finale against the California Baptist University Lancers (13-4-1) on Saturday night at 6 p.m.
1. LAST TIME OUT: The Salukis are coming off of back-to-back losses, with the most recent coming at the hands of Dartmouth College in a 5-0 decision on Oct. 22. The Salukis were outshot 17-5 overall, including a mark of 11-2 in shots on goal.
2. SCOUTING CBU: The Lancers are led in scoring by junior forward Rola Badawiya with 10 goals, followed by forward Amy Aquino and midfielder Karley Weeks with six goals each. Weeks leads the team in assists with four, while a quartet of Lancers trail with three assists each. Weeks, Badawiya and Aquino have combined for 156 overall shots with 57 coming on goal.
In goal, junior Romy Salvador and freshman Abigail Tyhurst have split time with each of them starting nine games. The duo has combined for 1,658 minutes played, 62 saves and 13 wins. Head coach Kristen St. Clair is in her 13th season at the helm and owns a 175-60-22 overall record with CBU.
3. SALUKI STATS: Freshman forward Liz Brechtel leads the team in goals with three, followed by fellow classmate Emma Spotak with two. Senior Andrea Rodriguez and freshman Kaitlin DuCharme share the team lead in assists with two each, followed by a trio of Salukis (Kathryn Creedon, Paityn Schneider, Spotak) with one apiece. Freshman Madison Meiring, Brechtel and Creedon are all tied for the team lead in shots on goal with nine each.
In goal, freshman Dariana Mihalache leads the unit in minutes played (1,162:42), saves (92), wins (2) and shutouts (1). Her 92 saves rank 25th in Division I, while her 5.75 saves per game are good for 29th. Maddy Alaluf, Sofia Howe and Nicole Raventos have all seen time in goal and have combined to account for over 320 minutes of playing time, 14 saves and two wins.
