D.J. Davis, Javon Williams Jr. earn MVFC weekly honors

Southern Illinois running backs D.J. Davis and Javon Williams Jr. both earned weekly honors from the Missouri Valley Football Conference, the league office announced Sunday night.

Davis, a 5-8, 170-pound senior, rushed for 195 yards on 30 carries in SIU's 45-21 win over Western Illinois to earn Offensive Player of the Week. He scored two touchdowns, averaged 6.7 yards per carry and had a long of 53. Davis scored the game's first touchdown on a 13-yard shovel pass and later added a 7-yard TD run as Southern piled up a season-high 375 rushing yards versus Western.

Williams Jr., 6-1, 239-pound, redshirt freshman rushed for a career-high 149 yards and completed both of his passes for 48 more yards to take home Newcomer of the Week honors. He did it on just 19 carries for a 7.8 average with a long of 35. Williams scored three rushing TDs on rushes of 1, 8 and 2 yards. That gives him 18 touchdowns on the season — the most by a Division I freshman and seventh-best among all FCS players.
